Art Gallery at the Academy Art Gallery at the Academy is an onsite gallery located in Academy of Music on Main Street's state-of-the-art facility in Spotswood, NJ. The art gallery was conceived by Melody Blasenheim, Academy of Music on Main Street's owner and director, as a way of supporting local artists and taking advantage of the many 12 foot high walls in the facility. "People are excited about this gallery. In the setting of the music academy, people's experience of what the art has to offer is deepened. Music and art go together."
The Art Gallery at the Academy presents four shows annually, each ten to eleven weeks in duration. The gallery's main display space is in the main waiting area in the front of the building, consisting of one unobstructed 31' x 12' wall and an adjoining 4 1/2' wall at the far end of the waiting area.

Scott Hawxhurst: Landscape of the Spirit
March 10 - June 28, 2010

Original oils and pastel prints by area artist Scott Hawxhurst
The Academy of Music on Main Street in Spotswood, NJ, is pleased to announce that Scott Hawxhurst will display his original oil paintings and pastel prints at the Academy Gallery from March 10 through June 28, 2010. An opening reception will take place on Wednesday, March 17, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Reception attendees will be able to meet Mr. Hawxhurst, purchase the original works and signed prints, and enjoy light refreshments.
Scott Hawxhurst was raised in Colts Neck, NJ, and currently lives in Belmar, NJ. He graduated with a BFA from the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in Lancaster, PA. Landscapes are his chosen subjects. Many are inspired by walks through the forest, and appear to be touched with a slightly mystical light.
Kevan Lunney, curator at the gallery, says, "Scott's paintings feel fresh, like an impromptu walk outdoors. They will remind you of familiar and comforting landscapes. His connection to the natural world is evident when he says, "I am always searching for those moments of awe; that feeling of being in the midst of natural divinity."
Hawxhurst also captures the scenery of parks and farmlands, and enjoys painting portraits of private homes. Some of his works in pastel have been reproduced, and the prints and paintings will be available for sale at the gallery.
Melody Blasenheim, owner of the Gallery, says, "It's an honor to have Mr. Hawxhurst's paintings displayed in our gallery. His landscapes are real and refreshing, and make me want to go outside and hike in the woods. I think people will love them."
